A cold, refreshing drink for any occasion.

The Infamous Slushie

If you are planning a party, bbq, or a get together for any reason at all, you need a slushie. They are refreshing, relatively cheap to make and can keep a few people happy for an hour or two anyway. Any creative person can adjust these to taste with very little effort. CAUTION: While you might think you are swilling down fruit juice trust me, you aren't. I wouldn't try operating anything too complicated after a few slushies have found their way into your person. They are very subtle and very slow but end up with one heck of a kick.

Vodka Slushie

7 cups of water

2 cups of sugar

4 orange pekoe tea bags

2 cups of water

1 can frozen orange juice concentrate

1 can frozen pink lemonade

1/3 cup lime juice

26 ounces of vodka

Bring the 7 cups of water to a boil and add the sugar. Boil until it gets slightly thick. Remove from heat. Boil the remaining 2 cups of water. Remove from heat and steep 4 orange pekoe tea bags for 30 minutes. Pour all the ingredients into a large container and put in the freezer. In 48 hours you will have slush. Put two ice cream scoops in each tall glass and fill with sprite, ginger ale or 7-Up. Very good. Be careful because it tends to sneak up on you.

Rum Slushie

7 cups of water

2 cups of sugar

2 cups boiling water

4 green tea bags

1 can frozen Five Alive juice concentrate

1 can frozen orange juice concentrate

2 cups of rum

Bring the 7 cups of water to a boil and add the 2 cups of sugar. Boil until slightly thickened. Remove from heat. Steep the 4 tea bags in the 2 cups of boiling water for 20 minutes. Remove from heat. Mix all the ingredients together in a large container and freeze for 24 to 48 hours. Use 2 ice cream scoops of slush in a tall glass and top with 7-up, sprite or gingerale. Once again, take care with this slushie. It packs a whollop when you're not looking.

NOTE: Friends of mine took their "slushies" very seriously. They bought themselves 2 fairly expensive, stainless steel milking pails. The pails were in the freezer and at any time you could go and help yourself to a slushie. I don't ever remember there not being at least one slushie pail on the go. Spring, summer, winter or fall, you could always get a cold drink over at Bill's. Something to think about anyway.
